THE NEWSPANS WILL IMPROVE UPON THE 90-MPH SPEED ON THE CURRENT STRUCTURE, WITH THE WEST BRIDGE DESIGNED TO 125-MPHOPERATION AND THE EAST BRIDGE FOR UP TO 160-MPH OPERATION, REDUCING TRAVEL TIME FOR THOUSANDS OF DAILY PASSENGERSALONG THE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR. ONCE THE NEW EAST BRIDGE IS OPERATIONAL, THE NEW WEST BRIDGE WOULD DECREASEMAXIMUM SPEEDS TO 100 MPH. THE CROSSING IS USED BY AMTRAKS INTERCITY SERVICES, MARYLAND AREA RAIL COMMUTER(MARC) SERVICE, AND FREIGHT SERVICE.
