Bingaman, Jeff [D-NM] | NM | D | B000468 | 1 | Indian Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Act of 1985 - Amends the Indian Health Care Improvement Act to authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services (Secretary) to provide, through the Indian Health Service, health promotion and disease prevention services to Indians. Directs the Secretary to conduct a study of the needs of Indians with respect to such services and to develop a comprehensive plan for their provision by the Service. Requires the Secretary to report to the Congress with respect to such project. Requires the Secretary to establish at least one demonstration project to determine the most effective and cost efficient way to deliver preventive health services to Indians and to train Indians in the provision of such services to members of their tribe and to other tribes. Authorizes the Secretary to enter into contracts with, or make grants to, specified schools to carry out such demonstration project. Requires the Secretary to report to the Congress with respect to such project. Authorizes appropriations.
