Mitchell, George J. [D-ME] ME D M000811 7 Ground Water Protection Act of 1985 - Directs the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to establish criteria for groundwater quality, including an analysis of the contaminants and the risks they pose to human and environmental health. Sets a timetable for the establishment of such criteria. Requires the Administrator to appoint an advisory panel. Requires each State to establish numerical standards for contaminants found in the ambient groundwater. Permits separate standards for special systems. Requires each State to use Federal criteria in establishing such standards. Requires each State to assess the groundwater resources within such State and to develop a management strategy and monitoring program for such resources. Requires the Director of the United States Geological Survey to make grants to States for such assessments. Directs the Administrator to make grants to assist States in meeting the other requirements of this Act. Authorizes appropriations. 2025-08-29T16:32:33Z
