Pell, Claiborne [D-RI] RI D P000193 40 (Measure passed Senate, amended) Authorizes the Law Enforcement officers Memorial Fund, Incorporated, to erect a National Law Enforcement Heroes Memorial on public grounds in the District of Columbia or its environs in honor and recognition of law enforcement officials in the United States who died in the line of duty. Directs the Secretary of the Interior to select with the approval of the Commission of Fine Arts and the National Capital Planning Commission a suitable site on public grounds for such memorial. Subjects the design for the memorial to the approval of the Secretary of the Interior, in consultation with the Commission of Fine Arts and the National Capital Planning Commission. Declares that no moneys belonging to the United States or the District of Columbia shall be expended for designing, planning, or erecting such memorial. Provides that the authority conferred pursuant to this resolution shall lapse five years from the date of enactment of this resolution unless the construction of the memorial is begun. Declares that the maintenance and care of the memorial shall be the responsibility of whoever has jurisdiction over the public grounds on which the memorial is built. 2025-07-21T19:32:26Z
