Weiss, Ted [D-NY-17] NY D W000258 29 Prohibits introducing U.S. armed forces into or over El Salvador or Nicaragua for combat purposes and prohibits obligating or spending U.S. funds for such introduction, unless: (1) the Congress has declared war or enacted specific authorization for such use of U.S. armed forces; or (2) such introduction of U.S. armed forces is necessary to meet a clear and present danger of hostile attack upon the United States or to meet a clear and present danger to, and to provide evacuation of, U.S. citizens. Requires the President, if U.S. forces enter El Salvador or Nicaragua under one of the exceptions to the prohibition, to describe the reasons for their actions to Congress. Provides for expedited consideration of legislation seeking a declaration of war or a specific authorization for the introduction of U.S. armed forces into or over Nicaragua or El Salvador. Prohibits U.S. agencies from providing any assistance or funding to support military or paramilitary operations in or against Nicaragua by any nation, group, organization, or individual. 2025-01-23T13:14:35Z
