[D-CA-25] CA D R000485 2 National Hispanic University Act - Directs the Secretary of Education to make grants to the National Hispanic University (organized in the State of California) in order to: (1) increase educational resources aimed at enhancing higher educational opportunities for Hispanics and other language-minority students; (2) foster greater participation on the part of that population in various professions; (3) enhance this Nation's multicultural and multilinguistic resources; and (4) provide for the continued professional development of persons involved in international commerce and diplomacy. Provides that: (1) 70 percent of such a grant shall be used to support students enrolled in the University through scholarships, grants, counseling, and other assistance; and (2) 30 percent shall be available to promote the institutional development of the University. Requires the National Hispanic University to report annually to the Secretary describing in detail the use of such grant funds and specific program accomplishments and progress obtained toward accreditation. Authorizes appropriations for FY 1984 through 1988. 2025-08-29T17:42:07Z
