Lowry, Mike [D-WA-7] WA D L000486 40 World War II Civil Liberties Redress Act - Directs the Attorney General to make redress payments to residents of the United States of Japanese, Aleut, or other ancestry who were interned, detained, or forcibly relocated by the United States during World War II. Provides that such payments shall not be considered income or receipts for purposes of Federal taxes or for determining eligibility for Federal benefits or assistance. Establishes within the Treasury the Japanese-American and Aleut Trust Fund to be administered by the Secretary of the Treasury. Establishes a board of directors responsible for making disbursements from the Fund. Provides that funds from the trust be distributed to benefit communities populated by eligible individuals for assisting in community services in education, health, housing, and cultural service. Authorizes appropriations. Requires the Attorney General and the Secretary of the Treasury to prescribe regulations as may be necessary to carry out this Act. 2025-08-29T17:37:58Z
