[R-ME] | ME | R | C000598 | 0 | Indian Claims Act of 1982 - Extends the statute of limitations on specified types of claims for monetary damages of Indian tribes or Indian individuals. Extends such limitation to one year after the date on which a final report prepared under this Act is sent to the affected tribe, band, group, or individual Indian. Directs the Secretary of the Interior, in conjunction with the Attorney General, to undertake a thorough investigation with respect to each tribe, band, group, and individual Indian whose land is held in trust or restricted status, to determine the existence of any rights of action in contract or tort which: (1) accrued to such tribe, band, group, or individual Indian on or before July 18, 1966; and (2) have not been brought, or have not been resolved, prior to the date of enactment of this Act. Directs the Secretary and the Attorney General to submit a report on the appropriate investigation to each affected tribe, band, group, or individual Indian. Sets forth requirements for such reports. Directs the Secretary to submit to the appropriate congressional committees a copy of each report. Directs the Secretary and the Attorney General, within 90 days after enactment of this Act and quarterly thereafter, to submit to the appropriate congressional committees a plan and schedule for: (1) completion of such reports; and (2) consultations with tribes, bands, groups, and individual Indians whose land is held in trust or restricted status. | 2025-08-29T19:51:53Z |
