95-hr-10571 95 hr 10571 A bill to amend the Communications Act of 1934 to require broadcast station licensees and noncommercial educational broadcasting stations to take certain actions to ensure the accuracy of statements made in connection with the broadcast of public affairs programs which permit audience participation, and for other purposes. [D-OH-19] OH D C000164 0 Amends the Communications Act of 1934 to require each station licensee, in connection with the broadcast of any public affairs program which permits audience participation by telephone: (1) to retain a transcript or an audio recording of any broadcast for 60 days after such broadcast; (2) to retain the names and addresses of each caller for 60 days after such broadcast; (3) to ascertain the accuracy of factual statements made by any participant in the discussion involved in such broadcast, and broadcast a correction of any inaccurate statement; (4) to maintain a record, for the duration of the license involved, of any complaint received by such station licensee regarding any such broadcast; and (5) to permit certain individuals to make an appropriate response. Directs that these provisions shall also apply to the editorializing and support of political candidates by noncommercial educational broadcasting stations. Empowers the Federal Communications Commission not to renew the license of any station which has committed willful or repeated violations of this Act. 2024-08-01T20:04:16Z
