[D-RI] | RI | D | P000100 | 3 | Constitutional Amendment - Provides that if an individual takes the office of Vice President under the provisions of the twenty-fifth amendment and subsequently becomes President under that amendment at a time when more than twelve months remain in the term of the President, then there shall be a special election for the offices of President and Vice President, and the twenty-fifth amendment shall not apply to the vacancy in the office of the Vice President caused by such individual becoming President. Provides that such individual shall serve as President only until a President elected in such special election takes the oath of office of President. Directs the Speaker of the House of Representatives, in addition to his duties as Speaker, to act as Vice President, and to perform the duties of that office, with one exception that the President pro tempore of the Senate shall serve as President of the Senate with voting privileges, until a Vice President elected in such special election takes the oath of office, and in the event the Senate shall be equally divided, the Secretary of State may cast a vote to break the tie. | 2025-07-21T19:32:26Z |
