[D-MA] MA D K000105 10 Makes it the sense of Congress that: (1) the President of the United States should seek direct negotiations with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, designed to achieve agreements on limiting deployment of their respective naval and other military forces in the Indian Ocean and littoral states; (2) these negotiations should be convened, as rapidly as possible, either in a bilateral forum, or within the United Nations Ad Hoc Committee on the Indian Ocean, augmented to include the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; (3) these negotiations should consider, among other topics, agreed limitations by the two Powers on establishment or use of naval and other military facilities in the Indian Ocean and littoral states, numbers of war-ships (or ship-days) deployed in the Indian Ocean basin, and the size and characteristics of warships and other military forces deployed there; (4) during these negotiations, the President should reaffirm the principal of Freedom of the Seas, in regard to the Indian Ocean, and bear in mind the deliberations of the United Nations Ad Hoc Committee on the Indian Ocean regarding relevant issues; and (5) the President should report to the Congress at regular intervals, not less frequently than every six months, on progress made pursuant to this concurrent resolution. 2025-01-14T19:00:46Z
