106-hr-1581 106 hr 1581 To end the use of steel-jawed leghold traps on animals in the United States. Animals 1999-04-27 1999-06-15 Referred to the Subcommittee on International Economic Policy and Trade. House Rep. Lowey, Nita M. [D-NY-18] NY D L000480 98 Prohibits the import, export, or shipment in interstate commerce of conventional steel jawed leghold traps and of articles of fur derived from animals trapped in such traps. Prescribes criminal penalties for violations of this Act. Directs the Secretary of the Interior to reward informers (other than Government employees performing official duties) for information leading to a conviction under this Act. Empowers enforcement officials to detain, search, and seize suspected merchandise or documents and to make arrests with and without warrants. Subjects seized merchandise to forfeiture. 2025-01-02T17:10:43Z
