Pallone, Frank, Jr. [D-NJ-6] NJ D P000034 11 Food Safety Enforcement Enhancement Act of 1997 - Amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require a person, other than a household consumer, who has reason to believe that any food item introduced into commerce or held for sale is adulterated or misbranded to so notify the Secretary of Agriculture. Requires the Secretary to then: (1) cease distribution of such item; (2) provide appropriate producer and consumer notification; (3) recall such item; or (4) take any combination of such actions. Empowers the Secretary to impose a pre-hearing order to cease distribution of such item. Outlines hearing procedures for the recall of such item. Provides with respect to this Act: (1) civil penalties for violations; and (2) whistleblower protections for employees exercising rights provided. 2025-08-21T16:14:51Z
