McCollum, Bill [R-FL-8] FL R M000350 1 United States Marshals Service Improvement Act of 1996 - Amends the Federal judicial code to provide for the appointment of U.S. marshals for each judicial district of the United States and for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia by the Attorney General of the United States (currently, by the President) subject to Federal law governing appointments in the competitive civil service. Sets forth transitional provisions. Requires the President to appoint a marshal, for a four-year term, to fill the first vacancy which occurs in the office of U.S. marshal in any district between the date of enactment of this Act and December 31, 1999. 2025-07-21T19:32:26Z
