100-hr-5036 100 hr 5036 A bill to direct the Chief Medical Director of the Veterans' Administration to develop standard criteria for the treatment and diagnosis of post-traumatic-stress disorder (PTSD) and the training of those who counsel and treat the victims of PTSD, establish PTSD treatment teams at Veterans' Administration Medical Centers, and hire additional personnel to treat victims of PTSD. Gejdenson, Sam [D-CT-2] CT D G000120 20 Directs the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Veterans Administration (VA) to develop minimum standard criteria for the treatment and diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to be applied uniformly to all VA medical centers. Directs the CMD, no later than three years after the enactment of this Act, to prescribe and publish such criteria in a mental health program guide. Outlines factors to be considered by the CMD when developing such criteria. Directs the CMD to develop criteria for the education, training, and evaluation of personnel whose duties include the counseling and treatment of veterans suffering from PTSD to be applied uniformly at all VA medical centers. Directs the CMD, no later than three years from the enactment of this Act, to prescribe and publish such criteria in a mental health program guide. Requires the CMD, in establishing such criteria, to consult with the Special Committee on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, established under the Veterans' Health Care Act of 1984. Directs the CMD to establish, at each VA medical center, a PTSD treatment team which shall be responsible for the counseling and treatment of veterans suffering from such disorder. Directs the Administrator of Veterans Affairs to hire such additional personnel as necessary to establish such teams at each medical center.
