Urges the President and Secretary of State to: (1) pursue bilateral and multilateral initiatives to press for nonviolent national reconciliation in Burundi, reduction of the risk of cross-border violence, and continued advancement in Burundi's economic reform program; (2) undertake a comprehensive reassessment of the bilateral relationship between the United States and Burundi and to consider the suspension of U.S. assistance unless specified conditions related to the violence against Burundi citizens are met within six months; and (3) suspend U.S. aid and oppose future World Bank loans to Burundi if, after one year, there has not been substantial progress in the internal reform of Burundi's military and civil administration and the reversal of patterns of ethnic discrimination against the majority Hutu. 2025-01-14T19:00:46Z
