| E8-1705 | Airworthiness Directives; Boeing Model 747 Airplanes | Proposed Rule | We propose to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Boeing Model 747 airplanes. This proposed AD would require measuring the electrical bond resistance between the motor operated valve (MOV) actuators and airplane structure for the main, center, auxiliary, and horizontal stabilizer fuel tanks as applicable, and corrective action if necessary. This proposed AD would also require a revision to the FAA-approved maintenance program to incorporate airworthiness limitation (AWL) No. 28-AWL-21 or AWL No. 28-AWL-27, as applicable. This proposed AD results from fuel system reviews conducted by the manufacturer. We are proposing this AD to prevent electrical current from flowing through a MOV actuator into a fuel tank, which could create a potential ignition source inside the fuel tank. This condition, in combination with flammable fuel vapors, could result in a fuel tank explosion and consequent loss of the airplane. | 2008-01-31 | 2008 | 1 | https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2008/01/31/E8-1705/airworthiness-directives-boeing-model-747-airplanes | https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2008-01-31/pdf/E8-1705.pdf | Transportation Department; Federal Aviation Administration | 492,159 | We propose to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Boeing Model 747 airplanes.
