98-29245 Limited Service Domestic Voyage Load Lines for River Barges on Lake Michigan Proposed Rule The Coast Guard proposes to allow certain unmanned dry cargo river barges to be exempt from the normal Great Lakes load line requirements to operate on Lake Michigan. Instead, these river barges would need to obtain a limited domestic service load line for two specific routes (between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and between Chicago and Muskegon, Michigan). This proposed rule will allow certain non-hazardous cargoes originating at inland river ports to be directly transported as far as Milwaukee and Muskegon by river barge, thereby realizing the benefits of the relatively low cost-per- ton-mile of river barge transportation. 1998-11-02 1998 11 https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/1998/11/02/98-29245/limited-service-domestic-voyage-load-lines-for-river-barges-on-lake-michigan https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-1998-11-02/pdf/98-29245.pdf Transportation Department; Coast Guard 492,53 The Coast Guard proposes to allow certain unmanned dry cargo river barges to be exempt from the normal Great Lakes load line requirements to operate on Lake Michigan.
