Many of the subject parcels have old industrial buildings that supported the United States military mission (Chanute Air Force Base) and now are in a state of disrepair. The proposed sale would allow the cost of the repair and maintenance of these old structures to be transferred to the buyers of the parcels and the proceeds of the sale to be used for airport purposes.
