| 2021-17842 | Civil Penalties | Proposed Rule | On January 14, 2021, NHTSA published an interim final rule in response to a petition for rulemaking from the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Alliance). The interim final rule provided that an inflation adjustment to the civil penalty rate applicable to automobile manufacturers that violate applicable corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards would apply beginning with vehicle Model Year 2022. The interim final rule also requested comment. In light of a subsequent Executive Order and the agency's review of comments, NHTSA is reviewing and reconsidering that interim final rule. Accordingly, NHTSA is issuing this supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking (SNPRM) to consider the appropriate path forward and to allow interested parties sufficient time to provide comments. | 2021-08-20 | 2021 | 8 | https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2021/08/20/2021-17842/civil-penalties | https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2021-08-20/pdf/2021-17842.pdf | Transportation Department; National Highway Traffic Safety Administration | 492,345 | On January 14, 2021, NHTSA published an interim final rule in response to a petition for rulemaking from the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Alliance).
