07-5681 Medicare Program; Proposed Standards for E-Prescribing Under Medicare Part D Proposed Rule This rule proposes the adoption of final uniform standards for an electronic prescription drug program as required by section 1860D- 4(e)(4)(D) of the Social Security Act (the Act). It also proposes the adoption of a standard identifier for providers and dispensers for use in e-prescribing transactions under sections 1860D-4(e)(3) and 1860D- 4(e)(4)(C)(ii), and section 1102 of the Social Security Act. The standards proposed under section 1860D-4(e)(4)(D) have been pilot tested and evaluated, and the findings indicate that the proposed standards meet the requirements for final standards that can be used for the Medicare Part D e-prescribing programs. The standards proposed in this rule, in addition to the foundation standards that were already adopted as final standards (see 70 FR 67568), represent an ongoing approach to adopting standards that are consistent with the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA) objectives of patient safety, quality of care, and efficiencies and cost saving in the delivery of care. 2007-11-16 2007 11 https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2007/11/16/07-5681/medicare-program-proposed-standards-for-e-prescribing-under-medicare-part-d https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2007-11-16/pdf/07-5681.pdf Health and Human Services Department; Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 221,45 This rule proposes the adoption of final uniform standards for an electronic prescription drug program as required by section 1860D- 4(e)(4)(D) of the Social Security Act (the Act).
