04-21219 Prevention of Salmonella Enteritidis in Shell Eggs During Production Proposed Rule The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing to require shell egg producers to implement measures to prevent Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) from contaminating eggs on the farm. We are taking this action because of the number of outbreaks of foodborne illnesses and deaths caused by SE that are associated with the consumption of shell eggs that have not been treated to destroy this pathogen. We expect that the requirements that we are proposing in this rule, if finalized as proposed, will result in a significant decrease in the number of SE-contaminated eggs produced on farms. Ultimately, we expect that the proposed requirements in this rule will generate public health benefits through a decrease in the numbers of SE-associated illnesses and deaths caused by consumption of shell eggs. 2004-09-22 2004 9 https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2004/09/22/04-21219/prevention-of-salmonella-enteritidis-in-shell-eggs-during-production https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2004-09-22/pdf/04-21219.pdf Health and Human Services Department; Food and Drug Administration 221,199 The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing to require shell egg producers to implement measures to prevent Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) from contaminating eggs on the farm.
