Senate confirmed the nomination of Linda McMahon, of Connecticut, to be Secretary of Education. Senate Chamber Action Routine Proceedings, pages S1445-S1464 Measures Introduced: Twelve bills and three resolutions were introduced, as follows: S. 812-823, S.J. Res. 29-30, and S. Con. Res. 8. Pages S1459-60 Measures Reported: S. 331, to amend the Controlled Substances Act with respect to the scheduling of fentanyl-related substances, with an amendment in the nature of a substitute. Page S1459 Measures Considered: Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act: Senate resumed consideration of the motion to proceed to consideration of S. 9, to provide that for purposes of determining compliance with title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 in athletics, sex shall be recognized based solely on a person's reproductive biology and genetics at birth. Pages S1446-56 During consideration of this measure today, Senate also took the following action: By 51 yeas to 45 nays (Vote No. 100), three-fifths of those Senators duly chosen and sworn, not having voted in the affirmative, Senate rejected the motion to close further debate on the motion to proceed to consideration of the bill.
