Mr. REED submitted an amendment intended to be proposed to\namendment SA 75 submitted by Mr. Schmitt and intended to be proposed to\nthe bill S. 5, to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to take\ninto custody aliens who have been charged in the United States with\ntheft, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table;\nas follows:\n\n       In lieu of the matter proposed to be added, add the\n     following:\n\n     SEC. 4. PROHIBITION ON UNFUNDED MANDATES.\n\n       This Act, and the amendments made by this Act, shall not\n     impose any unfunded mandate on any State or local government\n     relating to the detention of aliens under section\n     236(c)(1)(E) of the Immigration and National Act, as added by\n     section 2.\n                                 ______\n\n  SA 94. Mr. PAUL submitted an amendment intended to be proposed to\namendment SA 8 proposed by Mr. Thune (for Ms. Ernst (for herself and\nMr. Grassley)) to the bill S. 5, to require the Secretary of Homeland\nSecurity to take into custody aliens who have been charged in the\nUnited States with theft, and for other purposes; which was ordered to\nlie on the table; as follows:\n\n       In lieu of the matter proposed to be inserted, insert the\n     following:\n       ``(ii) is charged with, is arrested for, is convicted of,\n     admits having committed, or admits committing acts which\n     constitute the essential elements of any burglary, theft,\n     larceny, shoplifting, or assault of a law enforcement officer\n     offense, or any crime that results in death or serious bodily\n     injury to another person; or\n       ``(F) is unlawfully present in the United States and who\n     has voted in a Federal election in violation of section 611\n     of title 18, United States Code,'';\n       (2) by redesignating paragraph (2) as paragraph (4); and\n       (3) by inserting after paragraph (1) the following:\n       ``(2) Definitions.--For purposes of paragraph (1)(E) the\n     terms `burglary', `theft', `larceny', `shoplifting', `assault\n     of a law enforcement officer', and `serious bodily injury'\n     have the meanings given such terms in the jurisdiction in\n     which the acts occurred.\n\n                          ____________________"]], "columns": ["granule_id", "date", "congress", "session", "volume", "issue", "title", "chamber", "granule_class", "sub_granule_class", "page_start", "page_end", "speakers", "bills", "citation", "full_text"], "primary_keys": ["granule_id"], "primary_key_values": ["CREC-2025-01-17-pt1-PgS243-4"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 65.9564919769764, "source": "Federal Register API & Regulations.gov API", "source_url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/developers/api/v1", "license": "Public Domain (U.S. Government data)", "license_url": "https://www.regulations.gov/faq"}
