Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Dr. Renel\nBrooks-Moon as she receives the Key to the City of San Francisco from\nMayor London Breed. This prestigious recognition is a testament to\nRenel's extraordinary contributions to our community and her\ntrailblazing career in broadcasting and sports.\n  Born in Oakland to her beloved educator parents Nathaniel and Juanita\nBrooks, who inspired her path to achievement and amazing journey and\nsuccess story, becoming one of the most beloved women luminaries in the\nBay Area.\n  A Woodside High School and Mills College graduate, she began her\nbroadcasting career at KCBS and KFRC before breaking through at 106\nKMEL in 1986. Later, she woke up the San Francisco Bay Area with her\niconic ``Renel In The Morning'' show on 98.1 KISS-FM.\n  She became the San Francisco Giants' public address announcer in 2000\nand excelled in the position for 24 years.\n  As one of the first Black women in this role, Renel broke barriers\nand made history in Major League Baseball. She was the first woman to\nannounce a world championship game in any professional sport and the\nfirst to announce MLB's All-Star Game.\n  Renel Brooks-Moon has had a profound impact on our community, not\nonly entertaining and informing us but also being a role model for\naspiring broadcasters, particularly women and people of color.\n  Renel's impact extends beyond broadcasting. She has volunteered in\ncommunity service and received honorary doctorates from Mills College\nand the University of San Francisco, recognizing her contributions to\neducation and society.\n  Her journey from a young Giants fan to the team's iconic voice that\nBay Area fans have loved for more than two decades exemplifies the\npower of perseverance and believing in your dreams.\n  Mr. Speaker, I ask my colleagues to join me in honoring Dr. Renel\nBrooks-Moon.\n\n[[Page E1330]]\n\n  Her legacy as a broadcaster, community leader, and trailblazer will\ncontinue to inspire, empower, and uplift the community now and for\nfuture generations, making her a true San Francisco Bay Area icon.\n\n                          ____________________"]], "columns": ["granule_id", "date", "congress", "session", "volume", "issue", "title", "chamber", "granule_class", "sub_granule_class", "page_start", "page_end", "speakers", "bills", "citation", "full_text"], "primary_keys": ["granule_id"], "primary_key_values": ["CREC-2024-12-24-pt1-PgE1329-4"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.5011260509490967, "source": "Federal Register API & Regulations.gov API", "source_url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/developers/api/v1", "license": "Public Domain (U.S. Government data)", "license_url": "https://www.regulations.gov/faq"}
