Mr. Speaker, the American people deserve policies that\nwill protect our planet, keep loved ones healthy, and preserve access\nto clean air, water, and land for future generations.\n  Lately, there has been a relentless assault on the environmental\npolicies that were crafted to protect us, including the commonsense\nprohibition of offshore drilling in the Atlantic. Despite the Defense\nDepartment stating that offshore drilling may impede and hamper\nmilitary readiness activities, the American people were told that our\noceans were open for exploitation.\n  Mr. Speaker, this is unacceptable. That is why, today, I introduced\nthe bipartisan Defend Our Coast Act with my friend, Congressman Walter\nJones of North Carolina. The Defend Our Coast Act will prohibit the\nDepartment of the Interior from issuing leases for the exploration,\ndevelopment, or production of oil and gas on the Outer Continental\nShelf in the mid-Atlantic.\n  Prior tragedies such as Deepwater Horizon's oil spill proved that\ndrilling accidents can be dangerous, expensive, and life-threatening.\nMr. Speaker, I urge you to bring the Defend Our Coast Act up for a\nvote. Offshore drilling negatively impacts our coastal communities. It\nis not worth the risk.\n  Let us commit ourselves to leaving the Earth a healthier and safer\nplace for future generations.\n\n                          ____________________"]], "columns": ["granule_id", "date", "congress", "session", "volume", "issue", "title", "chamber", "granule_class", "sub_granule_class", "page_start", "page_end", "speakers", "bills", "citation", "full_text"], "primary_keys": ["granule_id"], "primary_key_values": ["CREC-2018-06-05-pt1-PgH4763"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 3.9470780175179243, "source": "Federal Register API & Regulations.gov API", "source_url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/developers/api/v1", "license": "Public Domain (U.S. Government data)", "license_url": "https://www.regulations.gov/faq"}
