Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to\nmy constituent, Mr. George Paz Martin, a longtime activist, community\nleader and cherished friend who is being honored this month with the\nLifetime Peacemaker Award by the Wisconsin Network for Peace and\nJustice. I can think of no more appropriate recipient for this award.\nThroughout his life, Mr. Martin has exhibited tireless activism, a\nlimitless command of skills and approaches, and a relentless pursuit of\njustice and peace.\n  There is scarcely a social justice issue on which George Martin has\nnot served a crucial leadership role. Coming of age in the civil rights\nmovement, he fought for equality and desegregation in housing,\neducation, and employment, among other things. He has served numerous\norganizations that provide community development and services for\nhousing, healthcare, and economic development. An internationally\nrenowned peace activist and Green Party leader, he is also extremely\ninvolved in local efforts to address the needs of the veterans'\ncommunity.\n  Not only do his social justice interests know no bounds, but his\ncombination of skills and approaches to the pursuit of justice make him\na relentless champion. Having worked in the corporate world, he\nunderstands the utility of marketing and promotions in broadening the\npeace movement. He has built local, national and international\ncoalitions against violence within neighborhoods and among nations. He\nis a highly sought-after public speaker, who has participated in nearly\nevery major peace rally since the invasion of Iraq. He has traveled\nthroughout the world building relationships with other peace movements,\nand serving as a witness to the devastation caused by war and violence.\n  Finally, Mr. Martin demonstrates seemingly limitless personal\ncommitment. He brings care and compassion to every struggle. It is the\nhallmark of his style that he has crafted a movement against the Iraq\nwar that takes account of the humanity of everyone involved, including\nthose involved in the fighting, the policymakers, the peace leaders and\nthose who support the war.\n  I am indebted to George for his expertise, his friendship, and the\nexample of his leadership and I am honored to have this opportunity to\nthank him for his lifelong commitment to equality, peace, non-violence\nand justice.\n\n                          ____________________"]], "columns": ["granule_id", "date", "congress", "session", "volume", "issue", "title", "chamber", "granule_class", "sub_granule_class", "page_start", "page_end", "speakers", "bills", "citation", "full_text"], "primary_keys": ["granule_id"], "primary_key_values": ["CREC-2006-12-27-pt1-PgE2239-2"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.6050230003893375, "source": "Federal Register API & Regulations.gov API", "source_url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/developers/api/v1", "license": "Public Domain (U.S. Government data)", "license_url": "https://www.regulations.gov/faq"}
