Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to\nDr. Patrick McKiernan, a remarkable public servant and advocate from my\nhome state of Kentucky. Dr. McKiernan presently serves as Outreach\nCoordinator to Homeless Veterans for the Kentucky Department of Veteran\nAffairs.\n\n[[Page E2143]]\n\n  Tragically, more than 1,000 veterans will be sleeping on the streets\nof Kentucky tonight. Dr. McKiernan recognizes that there is something\nfundamentally wrong when individuals who once wore the uniform of the\nUnited States are forced by circumstances to live on the streets. Under\nhis compassionate leadership, the Kentucky Department of Veteran\nAffairs continues to work to establish special assistance programs to\nhelp get veterans off the streets and into housing or treatment\nfacilities.\n  Dr. McKiernan represents his agency on the Kentucky Council on\nHomeless Policy, advising the Governor and his staff on homelessness\nand housing issues across the state. He also represents Kentucky\nDepartment of Veteran Affairs at the annual conference of the National\nCoalition for Homeless Veterans in Washington, DC and the Homeless and\nHousing Coalition of Kentucky.\n  In addition to his current work and responsibilities, Dr. McKiernan\nis developing plans to establish the Homeless Veterans Coordination\nCommittee to provide additional guidance and support to help homeless\nveterans.\n  Dr. McKiernan's colleagues, and countless veterans touched by his\nexemplary work, note his unique ability to navigate bureaucracy and\nsuccessfully resolve casework with unusual expedience. Recently, Dr.\nMcKiernan intervened in a case involving a veteran afflicted with\nesophageal cancer who nearly became homeless due to the financial\nchallenges of his illness. Because of his efforts, an American hero is\nreceiving the care and assistance that he deserves. This is but one\nexample in a long career of helping others.\n  It is my great honor to recognize Dr. Patrick McKiernan today before\nmy assembled colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives. His\nleadership and service make him an outstanding American worthy of our\ncollective honor and appreciation.\n\n                          ____________________"]], "columns": ["granule_id", "date", "congress", "session", "volume", "issue", "title", "chamber", "granule_class", "sub_granule_class", "page_start", "page_end", "speakers", "bills", "citation", "full_text"], "primary_keys": ["granule_id"], "primary_key_values": ["CREC-2006-12-08-pt1-PgE2142-5"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 20.68272908218205, "source": "Federal Register API & Regulations.gov API", "source_url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/developers/api/v1", "license": "Public Domain (U.S. Government data)", "license_url": "https://www.regulations.gov/faq"}
