JON C. PORTER\n\n                               of nevada\n\n                    in the house of representatives\n\n                       Monday, December 20, 2004\n\n  Mr. PORTER. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to give thanks and praise to a\nfellow Nevadan and friend who has served her state well in many\ncapacities. Ann O'Connell, a former Nevada State Senator, retired at\nthe end of this state session. I stand today to give praise to her for\nher wonderful 19-year contribution to the great state of Nevada.\n  Ms. O'Connell was born in 1934 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She later\nearned a degree from the University of New Mexico. Upon moving to\nNevada she began a very successful career in politics in which she has\nserved her fellow Nevadans well.\n  In 1988 Ms. O'Connell received the Woman of Achievement in Politics\naward from the\n\n[[Page E2204]]\n\nWomen's Council of the Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. She has\nalso appeared in several editions of the ``Distinguished Women's Book\nof Nevada.'' In 2002 she received the Women's Role Model Award from the\nNevada Office of the Attorney General.\n  Mr. Speaker, it is with great honor that I stand today to pay tribute\nto a great legislator and public servant. Ann O'Connell will be missed\nbut not forgotten.
