DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEV. CONTINUM OF CARE GRANTS: Grassroots lobbying. NAC advocates were asked to tell their members of Congress to include language requiring the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to renew all existing continuum of Care (CoC) Program grants expiring during the 2026 calendar year for one 12-month period in the upcoming appropriations process. FEMA ACT of 2025 (H.R 4669): Letter to the House of Representatives in support of the FEMA Act of 2025, organized by the Disaster Housing Recovery Coalition. The DHRC is a coalition of over 900 organizations that works to ensure that federal disaster recovery efforts reach all impacted households, including the lowest income, and other at-risk populations who are often the hardest hit by disasters and have the fewest resources to recover. The FEMA Act would restore FEMAs status as an independent agency outside of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and implement a host of improvements that will help the agency to respond faster, more fairly and with increased flexibility to the needs of all disaster survivors across the country. HOMELESS PERSONS MEMORIAL DAY LETTER: Letter to Congress remembering all who died while experiencing homelessness over the past year. It shares our prayers that Congress will act to responsibly fund key programs and specifically include a provision in the T-HUD bill to prevent anticipated funding gaps in HUDs largest homeless assistance program, which we are concerned could result in more people dying outdoors this winter. It calls on Congress to renew current grants and take further action to address the homelessness crisis and bring peace to those who suffer. HOUSING LEGISLATION: Met with staff for House Financial Services Committee for Rep. Maxine Waters, Ranking Member of the Committee to discuss current Housing legislation being considered after Committee hearings, and strategies and recommendations for comprehensive low-income housing reform. On 12/17/25 Chairman of the Committee, Rep. French Hill and Rep. Waters introduced H.R.6644 - Housing for the 21st Century Act which includes some of our recommendations.
