This bipartisan bill seeks to stem catastrophic cuts of Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) victim services by bolstering deposits that support those who are vulnerable, offering solace to the afflicted, and working towards the restoration of individuals and communities. VOCA grants are the primary source of federal funding for victim services, including programs supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, stalking, human trafficking, elder abuse, community violence, homicide, and other crimes. PROPOSED RULES RE: COMPENSATION TO VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE: The Interfaith Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, of which NAC is a member, submitted a public comment on the Office for Victims of Crime proposed rulemaking on victim compensation. The letter expressed support for the important rule that improved victim access to financial support, with the exception of certain proposed changes pertaining to payment for sexual assault forensic exams. The letter suggested that the cost of collecting forensic evidence in sexual assault cases should fall to the taxpayers and not the limited Victims Of Crime Acts funding. Failing to do so sends an extremely troubling message about societal priorities: unlike other crimes, sexual assault is not important enough to investigate with public funds. | HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,Justice, Dept of (DOJ) | 20000 | 0 | 0 | 2024-07-03T14:07:06-04:00 |
