We have followed USDA Packers and Stockyard Division's reports on livestock marketing due to the fire. COVID has created wild swings in the protein markets. Cattle producers are concerned about market movements between box beef prices and live/fat cattle prices. Multiple bills have been introduced in congress that impact small and medium slaughter plants and meat packers. Additional bills limiting the ways and opportunities producers market livestock have also been introduced. Congress passed a number of bills that will impact farmers and ranchers through USDA and SBA programs, including the Paycheck Protection Program Loan. Unfortunately the PPP is not available if producers had a negative Schedule F for 2019.
