The tariff takes effect on May 10, 2019. The ten percent tariff was imposed on $200 billion of Chinese imports in September 2018. The tariffs were imposed because of a Section 301 investigation into Chinas treatment of U.S. business regarding forced technology transfer and intellectual property protection. Initial tariffs on China under Section 301 authority were imposed on $50 billion of Chinese imports, at a twenty-five percent tariff, in July 2018. China has not yet announced any retaliation against U.S. imports from this increase in the tariff rate. Retaliatory tariffs are currently imposed on most U.S. agricultural and food exports to China. | Agriculture, Dept of (USDA),HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,SENATE,U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) | 14250 | 0 | 0 | 2019-06-13T14:03:27.957000-04:00 |
