The portion of H.R. 4970 dealing with the potential creation of a National Center for Campus Public Safety is found in Section 305. FIRE also had brief conversations with two congressional offices about religious liberty on university campuses and free speech on campus. These conversations did not relate to any specific legislation. On 12/6/12 FIRE sent a letter to the acting head of Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights' (OCR) reiterating our opposition to the agency's Dear Colleague Letter of April 4, 2011 reducing the due process rights of students accused of sexual misconduct on campus.
