(RSI) involved in acts of gross negligence. RSI employs Linemen, Equipment Operators, Apprentices and Groundmen, who work on voltages ranging from 120 volts to as high as 500,000 volts. There has been an unusual amount of deaths, dismemberment and major injuries with this contractor in the last nine years. Employees and labor representatives have filed numerous complaints on RSI’s appalling safety record, but most have gone unanswered as the evidence continues to mount. RSI has had approximately 12 fatalities and numerous accidents investigated by OSHA in less than nine years, 10 of which have occurred in the last four years with fines totaling over $337,000. The majority of these fatalities have taken place in Texas involving employees classified as Linemen. This is a dangerous business. Most electrical line contractors have occasional fatalities, but they try hard to change their work practices and safety programs to prevent these types of accidents. Other contractors with larger workforces and more man-hours worked have nowhere near the fatality rate of RSI. OSHA fines, loss of contract work and lawsuits seem to have had no effect on RSI.
