Joined with other CCD members to express comments to Institute of Medicine (IOM) task force charged with making recommendations on the "essential benefits" to be included in the standard package of benefits for insurance policies to be offered by the insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act. Co-hosted a congressional staff briefing on rehabilitation and habilitation as components of the "essential benefits." Urged members of Congress to support full funding for Social Security Administration to ensure continuing progress at reducing the growing backlog of disability determination hearings around the country. Testified before the House Committee on Veterans Affairs regarding the need to improve employment opportunities for veterans with significant disabilities. The written testimony covered issues relating to the Workforce Investment Act, Social Security, vocational rehabilitation, and attitudinal barriers to the employment of people with disabilities. Endorsed the importance of Social Security for veterans and their families through the booklet, Social Security: Serving Those Who Serve Our Nation. Opposed chained CPI for Social Security COLA formula reform in letters to Members of Congress.
